bloch building blog

despite the obvious flaws of kansas city's nelson atkins website-bloch building blog -one being the backwards chronology of the posts-it is a priveliged glimpse into the final stages of construction and curation of the new building[s] by steven holl.

Bendheim Wall Systems is proud to have supplied the channel glass used to create the five lenses on the Bloch Building – the biggest channel glass project in North America.

LINIT channel glass, manufactured in Germany by Lamberts and distributed in North America by Bendheim Wall Systems, is the channel glass featured in two other Steven Holl projects: the Swiss Embassy residence, designed with Justin Rüssli, and the central section of Higgins Hall at Pratt Institute, in collaboration with Rogers Marvel Architects.

The channel glass texture installed on both the Bloch Building and the Swiss Embassy residence is Solar, a proprietary fine-mesh texture from Lamberts. The glass appears white because it is sandblasted and the low iron content removes the greenish cast typical to thick glass. Also, the planks have a custom width and are broader than a standard channel glass profile.

LINIT channel glass was also installed in 2006 on the interior of Pelli Clarke Pelli’s Minneapolis Central Library and the upper story of the Boston ICA, from Diller Scofidio + Renfro.

At www.bendheimwall.com you can read about these projects and others designed by leading architecture firms including Polshek Partnership, Kohn Pedersen Fox, Gensler, Rafael Viñoly, Stanley Saitowitz, Richard Meier, and SOM using LINIT.

Why is LINIT channel glass is installed on all these stellar projects? No other channel glass provider gives as much critical support to the architect and valuable assistance to the glazier as Bendheim Wall Systems does. Thank you,
