PechaKucha Night was conceived by Klein Dytham architecture as a place for architects, designers and artists to share their creative work easily, informally, and succinctly. Each presenter shows 20 images of their work timed for 20 seconds each, adding up to 6 minutes and 40 seconds of fame before the next person takes the stage. The phenomenon of PechaKucha, which is Japanese for the sound of conversation, has spread virally to 246 cities around the world since its inception in Tokyo in 2003.

You’re in industry so I’ll ask you. Do you notice a trend towards the Green? Are there more solar panels in the future of architecture? Here in Canada there are rumours that the next wave is homes built with rainwater filtration systems built in. In fact, the University of Guelph already have program already in place. I enjoy your blog and will visit often.

thanks for the compliments and commentary. for your query, it seems that the design and construction industry is definitely moving towards the "idea of green".
i am referring to the green that is the most easily marketed and desired 7 sold is the green you can see [re: PV solar panels, wind farms, dimmable glazing, etc.]. these more flashy high tech systems also usually take up 80% of the budget with only 20% of the payback value.
however, less "blingy" green systems [evaporative cooling, passive solar orientation, natural ventilation] are disregarded more often than not. design approaches such as these account for more like 20% of the cost, and can reap more than 80% of the value.
in summary, in general i believe there is a trend to be green, rather than a true commitment in regards to the attitude of our society.
