Alpine Modern: The Architect Explorer
An excellent interview feature with Larry Yaw of Aspen based CCY Architects over at the Alpine Modern e-journal website:
A solid look inside Larry's inspirations, cultural influences, design aspirations, life philosophy and what it means to create modern architecture in the mountain landscape. He also talks about a constant struggle that we Architects have when making something new: "...is architecture derived of context, or does the architecture create the context?" Most of his projects play with an intriguing tension of duality and meaning, public vs private, historic vs. new...
Looking forward to seeing more of CCY's work.

please call 720-913-0130 for support.
To purchase members tickets, you must create an account if you have not done so in the past.
In order to create an account you must have your current museum membership number on hand.
What is the Vernissage Preview Party?
Vernissage is a term used for a preview of an art exhibition, before the formal opening. A limited
number of Vernissage tickets are available for purchase. Vernissage tickets offer exclusive access
to Design After Dark from 6:00-7:00 pm and admission to the event all evening.
Purchase here
Vernissage ticket holders can mingle with participating artists and designers over canapés and cocktails,
while taking advantage of the distinct opportunity to purchase artworks and silent auction items.
What should I wear?
Impeccable dress, for one fabulous evening celebrating design.
Is there a coat check?
Yes. There is no additional charge for coat check.
Not ready to go home after Design After Dark?
Head to Denver’s longest-running and most award-winning dance party Lipgloss
for the official AMASS after–party. Show proof of attendance to Design After Dark
and get free entry to dance the rest of the night away.

2015 Sunset Idea House Tour
Our former colleague and good friend Megan Hudacky at cky design has done some marvelous Interiors work for this year's Sunset Magazine Idea House. Tours will take place over the next few weeks starting on August 22nd.
Advance tickets are on sale through Friday, Aug. 21 at 8:00 p.m. for $60 each. For more information and to purchase tickets go here. Tickets purchased after that time must be purchased at any of the tour homes beginning at 11:00 am on Aug. 22 for $70 each. Children 12 and under are free.

Engineering without Engines...
"The International Style of Modernism came with the advent of building services. In the end, the architecture became like a container space, essentially like a boring box with a basement full of machinery to make it inhabitable," he said. "As a result, buildings literally started to look identical all over the planet."
"Today we have sophisticated building technology, we can calculate and simulate the environments and performance of the building, the thermal exposure of envelop, or the air flow through an urban space or structure."
"Rather than 'Architecture without Architects', it actually allows us to do 'Engineering without Engines'," he explained. "We can engineer a building and design a building with least reliance on active machinery to make it inhabitable."

The Archi Detail
To say it is impossible to control the vast quantities of details that occur in the late modern building is understandable, but one can just as easily argue that poetry is impossible given the plethora of printed text in the modern world. This type of non-detail is merely the bad detail, and we might thus add two categories to the list of detail types--the incompetent and the indifferent. The architect cannot control all details of the building, but the architect must control the important ones.

Doors Open Denver
As some of you might already know, April is Architecture month in Denver. This weekend (April 25th-26th) is the main event, and many of the city's architectural landmarks, design firm offices and downtown businesses are featuring guided public tours and open house events.
